At the mercy of doctor's

One relationship that of patient and doctor that's based on blind trust is getting to scare one as one hears case after case of negligence , acts of omission and commission by doctor after doctor. Today's story of a 17 year old with just a crushed ankle dying just because her operation could not be done for 3 days and her wound not being dressed regularly until then and that too in one of the so called good hospitals.The doctor excuse being there were too many waiting to be operated! What stops the hospital from sending patients they cannot operate on to another hospital ? They would rather take a chance with the life of the patient than loose revenue.
This soon after watching one of the Satymev Jayate episode that showed the callous attitude of doctors and hospitals and the statistics that not a single doctor in this country has ever lost his licence in the last ..god knows how many years.
One can only keep once fingers crossed that the doctor/hospital one is trusting one's life with is not one of these commercial institutions.

Kim Edwards The Memory Keeper's Daughter ..story of a father, a doctor who in an emergency had to assist his wife's delivery and gives away his daughter because she was a Downs Syndrome baby and lies to his wife that the baby was born dead and only the boy baby one of the twin survived.

A heart rending story so non judgement in it's narrative that your sympathies are with all the characters.Each of them from their perspective did what they did for the sake of other's .I was torn between the characters.Emotionally draining yet gripping . It haunts you long after having read it. Brings out the different shades of grey in human character not just the black and white.
